The location

Whilst you may not expect it, Huddersfield does have a great nightlife, with plenty of independent and chain bars and restaurants to enjoy on an evening. On the outskirts of the town centre you’ll also find the John Smith’s Stadium, an Odeon cinema, and the beautiful Greenhead Park.

Roseda House is perfectly situated for commuters, with the train station being just a 5 minute walk away, which means you can be in Leeds city centre in less than 20 minutes, and Bradford and Wakefield in 40 minutes. Huddersfield is also just a 20 minute drive away from the stunning Peak District National Park, perfect if you fancy a break out in nature. There are also many beautiful villages nearby for a lovely day out, such as Meltham and Holmfirth.

Cadbury Egg Hunt at Nostell Priory, Wakefield

April 1 – 20 

Head down to Nostell Priory and take part in Cadburys Easter Egg Hunt! Cadburys have partnered with the National Trust to create a series of action-packed family days out.

To claim your Cadbury chocolate prize, you will need to wind your way through the wild woodlands and alongside lakes to find the clues and puzzles left behind!

Nostell Priory and Park is an 18th century architectural masterpiece with landscaped park and gardens. Take a walk around the kitchen garden and follow the winding paths through the pleasure grounds.

Eggstrodinary Science Show at Thwaite Mills Watermill

Every Thursday afternoon in the school holidays, Thwaite Mills will be running fun science and experiment sessions suitable for all the family. This week they are exploring eggs in the Eggstrordinary Science Show.

Admission is free to the museum and no booking is required. The show starts at 1:00pm – 3:00pm.

Easter Adventure at Stockeld Park

There are all sort of fun events happening at Stockeld Park this Easter, from giant egg hunts through the Enchanted Forest, to meet and greets with the Easter Bunny and Little Bo Beep. Visitors can also design their own chocolate bar, get lost in a giant maze, have a go on some Bumper Boats, visit the Stockeld Park Ponies, and catch the Doris the Dragon Easter Show.

Hunt for eggs (of the chocolate variety) at Stirley Community Farm in Huddersfield, and enjoy lots of Easter themed fun. The farm, leased from Kirklees Council since 2011, is an exciting rural adventure into the world of food and farming covering 240 acres. Expect to get up close and personal with shorthorn cattle and find out more about food-growing, apples and beehives.

The city of York has had a long and distinguished history with the confectionery and chocolate industry. Even back in 1781 the city boasted 8 confectioners for its 17,000 inhabitants. The annual York Chocolate Festival celebrates the industry, chocolate lovers, artisan chocolatiers, museums and attraction and shares a piece of York’s chocolate history. To complete the chocolate experience, local chefs and chocolatiers will be demonstrating how to make chocolate and how to use chocolate in sweet and savoury dishes. Admission is free!

What’s happening in Yorkshire 2017: Part 1

It’s a new year, and as normal, Yorkshire is host to loads of amazing events throughout the year, from live music to food festivals, sporting events to beer weekends, there’s something for everyone to look forward to in 2017! This week we’re focusing on what’s coming up in Leeds, Huddersfield and Bradford.

Leeds

First up we have Live At Leeds, an award-winning music festival taking place at various venues across the city. This years acts include Slaves, Wild Beasts, White Lies and The Pigeon Detectives plus over 100 more! Definitely not one to miss. 29 April. 

Calling all foodies, Leeds Indie Food is back to celebrate the best of independent food and drink. Nothing is confirmed yet, but keep your eye on their social media! 11-28 May.

Another city favourite, Slam Dunk is even bigger and better in 2017. Enter Shikari are headlining this year, with other acts including Don Broco, Bowling for Soup, The Bronx and We The Kings. 28 May.

Have an indulgent weekend at the Yorkshire Food & Drink Show, with over 100 exhibitors showing the regions finest food and drink, as well as live cookery demonstrations. What’s not to love. There’s also loads more foodie events in Leeds throughout the year. 2-4 June.

For all tattoo enthusiasts, head down to the Leeds International Tattoo Expo this summer for their 4th year, and see amazing artists from all over the world. 8 & 9 July.

If you love electronic music, then Cocoon In The Park is a must for you. Brought to you from the team behind Mint Club and Mint Warehouse, it’s guaranteed to be an amazing day and night. 8 July.

Join in Yorkshire’s biggest celebration of LGBT life at Leeds Pride 2017. They marked their 10th birthday last year, and are planning even bigger things this year. 5 & 6 August.

Four days of beer, food and music. Leeds International Beer Festival is back for it’s 6th year with even more amazing craft beers from the UK and overseas, as well as a street food market and live music. 7-10 September.

Whatever your taste, Leeds International Film Festival always has something for everyone to enjoy with 2 weeks of screenings from all over the world. 2-16 November.

Huddersfield

Brush up on your reading for the Huddersfield Literature Festival; 2 weeks of showcasing established and new writers and performers, as well as various workshops and masterclasses. 4-19 March.

One of the largest outdoor festivals in West Yorkshire, the Huddersfield Carnival is set to be even bigger and better in its 33rd year. There will be a glow parade on the Friday, the carnival on the Saturday and a Caribbean music festival on the Sunday. 7-9 July. 

You can never have too many food festivals, so why not visit the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival as well! Celebrating food from Huddersfield and around Yorkshire, the festival helps support local and regional businesses. August 2017.

One of the best music festivals in the region, the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival runs over 10 days with over 50 events including concerts, dance, music-theatre, multi-media, talks and films. November 2017.

Bradford

The Tour De Yorkshire starts its stage three from Bradford City Park before heading through the Dales. Don’t miss one of the biggest events in Yorkshire’s calendar! 30 April.

Bradford Literature Festival is renowned for having world famous authors, poets and speakers with a jam packed programme of discussions, debates and performances. 30 June – 9 July.

The city’s biggest event of the year, Bradford Festival, is returning in 2017 with a vibrant multicultural programme of the best theatre, art, music and dance from all over the world. 28-30 July.

The largest of its kind in the region, the Halifax Agricultural Show offers something for everyone, with farm and domestic animal shows, as well as local produce, flowers, fruit & veg, crafts and entertainment such as showjumping, vintage vehicles, farmer’s markets, stall and demonstrations. 12 August.
